The current exhibition is by a new artist Kayleigh Burgess. Her work will be up in Pogo for May and June. Below she describes her inspiration and work.

I like to take photos with interesting angles and colour and I have a particular fascination with interesting building shapes against blue skies. My love for photography really only started during a trip to China in 2007 where I felt inspired by everything I saw. This is the first time I have exhibited any of my work.

For my exhibition at Pogo I have decided to focus on the different colours that have become an accidental theme of my photography. When deciding which of my photos to exhibit I realised that I could form a rainbow of photos around the space.

Many of my photos are taken overseas, I love nothing more than to explore new places whilst capturing moments I want to keep.

Religulous

A range of views on various world religions is explored as Bill Maher
travels to numerous religious destinations including Jerusalem, the
Vatican, and Salt Lake City, interviewing believers from a variety of
backgrounds and groups. These include a former member of Jews for
Jesus, Christians, Muslims, former Mormons, and Hasidic Jews.He
travels to Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London, where he “preaches”
Scientology beliefs.

Black Power Mix Tape

The Black Power Mixtape examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in the black community and Diaspora from 1967 to 1975. The film combines music, startling 16mm footage (lying undiscovered in the cellar of Swedish Television for 30 years), and contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars.

The Secret of OZ

The documentary draws parallels with the classic children novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum depicting the story hidden in symbolism about monetary reform and the economic scenario during the late 19th century. The yellow brick road (gold standard), the Scarecrow (farmers), the Tin Man (industrial workers), the Wicked Witch of the West (Cleveland banker J.D. Rockefeller) and the Wicked Witch of the East (New York banker J.P.Morgan), the Emerald City of Oz (greenback money), the illusory power of the Wizard in the capitol city (who monopolized power through deceit), even Dorothy’s silver slippers (changed to ruby slippers for the color movie version -symbols of Baumâ’s and Bryan’s belief that adding silver coin to gold coin would provide much needed money to a depression-strapped, 1890s America). Oz is a virtual forest of monetary reform symbolism, done by someone extremely well versed in the Populist monetary reform goals of the period (Baum was a newspaperman and author) goals which have never changed – they are still valid today, they are needed now more than then.

Children of the Revolution

Inspired by the student revolutions of 1968, Ulrike Meinhof and FusakoShigenobu became the leading revolutionaries of their time, as leaders of the Baader Meinhof Group and the Japanese Red Army. Appalled by the killing in Vietnam, they worked with Palestinian freedom fighters to overthrow capitalism through world revolution. Packed with extraordinary archive footage, the film sees journalists Bettina Röhl and May Shigenobu explore the lives of their mothers, Ulrike and Fusako, giving us a unique perspective on two of the most notorious “terrorists” in modern history. With capitalism in crisis and revolution sweeping the Arab world, we look back and ask: what were they fighting for and what have we learned?

Vegusto, the premiere vegan cheese is now available at Pogo, £4.90 per 200g block. Its not cheap but you won’t find it cheaper anywhere else and this stuff is good. If it sells well we hope to extend the range from Vegusto but for the moment we just have their 6 different cheeses.
