What is Pogo Café?
Pogo Café is run by a Voluntary Workers Co-operative who took over the lease of the café from Pumpkin’s vegetarian restaurant in 2004. Since then, we’ve been providing delicious vegan food and a space for alternative culture, actively promoting veganism and co-operative working, and providing a positive alternative to the unyielding dominance of mainstream capitalist culture. We strive to use organic vegetables, tofu, grains and beans, which are fair trade and locally grown, and bake our bread and ALL of our delicious cakes!
What is Veganism?
A vegan diet/lifestyle is one that rejects the use of all animal-derived products including meat, dairy, eggs, honey, as well as skins (fur, wool, leather) and cosmetic / chemical products tested on animals.
Why Vegan?
There is no good reason NOT to go vegan. The reasons for eliminating animal products include animal cruelty, environmental destruction and human health. A more detailed explanation and FAQ can be found on the Vegan Society website: www.vegansociety.com
Why Organic?
Organic food is produced using methods that are sustainable, environmentally sound and free from potentially harmful genetic modification, creating a healthier and tastier option all round. For more information, please visit: www.whyorganic.org
Cake Orders
We make cakes to order starting at £20 for a standard 8 to 12 slice cake. Please ask about our cake varieties.
Use Pogo Café
Pogo also exists as a resource for groups and individuals seeking a space to hold meetings, benefits, talks and film screenings. We can also cater for parties of up to 40 people.
Exhibitions
We have had a great range of exhibitions on our walls over the years and change our gallery space monthly to include new local or political art. We have displayed photography exhibitions, installations and graphic art and are always looking for new and different ideas. If you’re interested in exhibiting here, feel free to contact us.
